There are a few people who dared to walk the 11 hundred foot tightrope 160 feet above Niagara Falls. The most famous was a man named Charles Blondin beginning in 1859. He could do amazing things on the wire – cooking an omelet and eating it, walking on stilts, with baskets on his feet, hanging, lying on the wire, blindfolded, and carrying his manager on his back Crowds of people gathered on both the NY side of Niagara Falls and the Canadian side – some came to see if he would fall to his death; others came because they believed he could do anything. He crossed the Niagara about 300 times. His most famous feat was walking across the Falls pushing a wheelbarrow, once with a sack of potatoes to cheering crowds. Then he asked, “ do you believe I can cross the Niagara Falls pushing a wheelbarrow with someone in it? “ Yes we believe,” the crowd roared. Then he asked, “Who would like to volunteer?” The crowd fell silent.
That is what it is like for nominal Christians.” Yes we believe in God” or “we believe there is a God up there not very involved in our lives.” “I believe Jesus was the son of God and died on the cross for forgiveness of sins.”( Head Knowledge) The demons also believe and tremble, what makes them different than us? Though the demons know all that, they rejected God, didn’t have faith in Jesus. Daring to get in the wheelbarrow is like having faith in Jesus for salvation – a faith that changes your life, your lifestyle, the core of who you are.- It is faith in action – heart Knowledge. Daring to believe the promises of the Bible and finding God to be true and faithful. It’s not daring any more. It is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
In a Head Nurse meeting the Director of Nurses gave the 6 of us several papers to write out all our talents, abilities, all we have, the people in our lives…– Do you have a car? Can you drive? Can you walk easily? Can you dress and feed yourself? Can you see and hear well? Can you still play an instrument? Do you have a husband or children nearby? If any of those were written down we were asked to throw the papers in the middle of the room. Over and over she asked the questions until there was only 2 of us left. What if you have nothing left? Both of us said “We would still have Jesus.” It was actually an exercise to know how some of our residents probably felt. All alone and unable to do things without help - friends and family died or moved away. Or how some people feel during the Corona Virus.
If all this is true – would you get in the wagon if God asked you to? Would you commit to Jesus as your personal Savior? Would you like to know how?
