I woke up suddenly sitting upright. My heart was pounding, I felt anxious and restless. What’s wrong? I knew a storm was coming. I put on my robe and looked out the kitchen door. All seemed calm. Beside my bed I have a container of essential oils. I reached for the blend Peace and Calming. It was an old bottle I seldom need. Fortunately, old essential oils don’t go rancid and stay active. (Even in the pyramids pure essential oils were found still alive and active.) I liberally applied the oil. Actually, only a little is needed but I was very anxious. Then I added some lavender. Immediately I felt the anxiety start to abate. Twenty minutes later I was calm and ready to go back to sleep.
The next day my sister called. Mom was at the hospital and admitted. Not knowing what was wrong she was sent home with an anti-anxiety pill and an antibiotic. Are they so busy and too tired to figure things out? Besides that, her daughter had been seriously ill for some weeks unable to eat, losing weight, fever, headache and extremely anxious. Not the corona virus, the doctors said after several visits, but I wonder. They live in the Smokey Mountains in a little town. The rural hospital had closed and set up in a larger town many miles away. There are long lines to wait outside before anyone can go in.
The next day my sister from Massachusetts called. She is a nurse in a nursing home, caught the corona virus and passed it to her husband and daughter. She was quarantined for 14 days. She is well now but her husband, older, is still struggling. When my sister returned to work all gowned up and masked, she saw that several of her favorite patients had died of the virus. Devastating. In a nursing home your patients and staff are family. Three more Covid-19 patients were admitted by order of the state.
So, I pray, out loud, so my mind doesn’t wander. So many to pray for.
